My birthday is this week and I thought there was no better time to introduce myself and give you a peek into Chelsey Huff Design. I want to break down why I launched this exciting endeavor and what about me has manifested in my work.
If you were to ask someone close to me “What has Chelsey always been interested in?” They would probably answer with something artistic. I always was invested in art classes throughout school and really loved photography and what it took to create a beautiful photo. By 8th grade I knew graphic design was the creative future I had in mind and planned my high school classes accordingly. I went to college to pursue this career and held a few various jobs related to graphic design that ultimately were unfulfilling and led to me losing passion for the field. My last year of college I got married to my high school sweetheart and designed all of our stationery and that ignited a little spark for graphic design again. After I graduated from college I struggled to find a position in graphic design and settled into a job more focused on photo editing just to pay the bills.
The spring of 2020 like many would end up being a catalyst of life changing events for me. I would lose that job, find out I’m pregnant and be faced with the first pandemic shutting down society. In hindsight it was a blessing and a great opportunity to be a stay-at-home mother, a lifelong dream and give me time to refocus on my graphic design work. I had plenty of opportunities to develop stationery for baby announcements, birthdays, and Christmas cards. My son was 9 months old and I was faced with another surprise. I was pregnant again and although it was a shock to me and my husband we were so excited to bring our little girl into the world.
You may be asking yourself how all this specifically pertains to Chelsey Huff Design. Once I survived the madness of 2 under 2 I was able to take some more time to focus on my design work and the decision to start my own business. I knew I wanted to carve out a niche for myself that I was passionate about. I have had the opportunity to design stationery for several weddings including my friends and the opportunity to witness your designs as a part of someone’s big day is so exciting and fulfilling. I may not look like it but I love, LOVE and though it may seem cliché I truly enjoy helping anyone make their big day amazing.
As for my focus on alternative couples and lifestyles I feel sometimes that it can be forgotten or pushed to the wayside in favor of more stereotypical instances. I am a true crime junkie, wear black every day, metal head and lover of all things spooky. My love of the spooky has rubbed off on my oldest as Halloween movies are his favorite and he watches them year round.
