Unlock the Magic of Christmas Colors:

There are many quintessential aspects of The Holidays and one immediately recognizable one is colors.  We all are aware of vibrant reds and lush greens, but there are also beautiful golds and regal blues.  These colors are not by chance but instead evoke specific joyful feelings that put us in the holiday mood.  This can be a great way to inform our decision making in designing Holiday cards.

1. Red: Passion and Tradition

Red is the definitive color of The Holidays. It symbolizes warmth, love and tradition.  Red is a vibrant color that evokes feelings of excitement and passion. We often associate red with Santa, holly and ornaments. It is the heart of this joyful time.

2. Green: Nature of Renewal

Green represents the beautiful evergreen trees that show beneath blankets of snow and remain a constant source of color in the cold winter. If you want to inspire your recipients with feelings of hope and freshness then some green tones can make a great place in your design. Spring is coming, so let green remind you.

While blue may not be the first color you think of, I encourage you to look around and I bet you will notice more often than not. Blue in any tone can be a great addition to any card and can be an understated color that lets your card remain peaceful and calming. A pleasant and quiet snowy winter night might be the perfect inspiration for some blue on your next Holiday card.

Snow is probably at the forefront of many winter designs. There is a perfect beauty to fresh snow and white can be a perfect way to keep your design simple and not overwhelm the design. A natural background to allow other design aspects to shine or let it be the main color and keep the design simplistic.

Maybe Gold is too much for your design but you want that sparkle and glimmer, Silver. A great way to integrate elegance and simplicity but not take over your design like a gold might. The Holidays are a magical time and let this shiny color bring that magic to the design.

Combine these colors!

You are not limited to only one of these colors in your design. Get creative and mix and match these colors to see what different vibes you get from each. There are natural pairings such as red and green as well as blue and silver, but you are not limited by what’s “normal”. Find something unique and representative of yourself and what emotions you hold dear.

Create Lasting Holiday Memories

Understanding the different colors that represent the holidays and how they can be used to evoke different feelings from your recipients is fundamental. It can easily inform your decisions when designing your Holiday card if you want one full of excitement and joy then red could be a natural element. Maybe you want something more calm and peaceful then blue and silver could lead to an elegant and simple card. Think about the great positive emotions your cards can bring and how to adequately accomplish it!
